Campaigns

How to run a campaign in Bupple — the brief, goal, dates, posting rhythm and credit limit, its members and roles, its memory, what is in it and its results.

A campaign is one push toward one goal for one brand, like a product launch or an event. It holds the brief, the goal, the dates, the people working on it and everything they make for it, and it shows how far you are toward the goal. Open it from Campaigns in the sidebar, or press C. Campaigns belong to the brand selected at the top of the sidebar.

The campaigns list

The Campaigns page lists this brand's campaigns with their Brand, Status, Goal and Dates. The sidebar also lists them under Campaigns, so you can jump between them.

The Campaigns page listing three campaigns with their status, goal and dates

  1. New campaign starts a campaign. You need permission to edit the brand to see it. If you cannot start one, ask a workspace admin.
  2. Click a campaign to open its page.

Each campaign has one of four statuses: Draft, Active, Paused or Ended. Workspace owners and admins see every campaign of the brand. Everyone else sees only the campaigns they have been added to. With none yet, the page says No campaigns yet.

Start a campaign

Press New campaign. The page says You can change any of this later. You start as the campaign's owner.
Give it a Name and pick its Status. A new campaign starts as Draft.
Fill in the details below: the brief, the goal, the dates, the rhythm, the stop conditions and the credit limit. The start date is today until you change it. Only the name has to be filled in; the rest can wait.
Press Create campaign. Bupple opens the new campaign's page.

You can also start one without leaving your work. Wherever you pick a campaign (see What can be in a campaign), the list ends with New campaign…. It asks only for a name; you add the goal, dates and members on the campaign's page later. You can also ask the Superagent to start a campaign for you. It asks you first, unless Auto-approve is on.

The details

On a campaign's page, someone who manages the campaign sees a form they can change. Everyone else sees the same details as plain text, with the note Only somebody who manages this campaign can change these.

A campaign's Details card with name, status, brief, goal and dates

  1. Status — Draft, Active, Paused or Ended.
  2. Brief — what the campaign is about, who it is for and what it should say. Write it in plain words. Bupple uses it to fill the campaign's memory (see Campaign memory).
  3. Goal — pick what you measure and type a target number, for example Clicks and 4000. You can measure Clicks, Impressions, Reach, Engagements, Views, Followers or Conversions, or choose No goal. The target is a whole number above zero.
  4. Start date — the first day of the campaign.
  5. End date — the last day. Press No end date to leave it open. The end date cannot be before the start date.

Rhythm, stop conditions and credit limit

The Posting rhythm, Stop conditions and Credit limit cards

  1. Posting rhythm says how many posts a week you plan on each platform. Press Add platform for another row, pick the platform and type a number between 1 and 100. Each platform can have one row. The trash button removes a row.
  2. Stop conditions are the moments your team should stop the campaign, in your own words, like Pause the X posts if a week brings fewer than 50 clicks. Press Add stop condition for each one. Each can be up to 280 characters.
  3. Credit limit is the most the campaign may spend. Choose No limit or Set a limit and type a number of credits. Once a limit is saved, a bar shows what the campaign has spent so far, like 153 of 6,000 credits spent. Credits count toward the campaign when they are spent on work in it, such as its chats and automations.
  4. At the limit decides what happens when the spend reaches the limit:
    • Stop spending at the limit — the next paid step in the campaign is refused.
    • Only warn me — nothing stops. The workspace's owners and admins, and the people who manage the campaign, get a notice at 80% and at 100% of the limit.
  5. Save changes saves the whole form. The line beside it says Nothing has changed yet until you change something, and points to the field in red if something is not valid.

Members and campaign roles

The Members card lists who works on the campaign and the Campaign role each person has in it. The person who starts a campaign is its Owner.

The Members card with five teammates and their campaign roles

  1. Change a person's role with the menu beside their name. The change is saved at once.
  2. The trash button takes the person out of the campaign.
  3. To add someone, choose Pick a teammate and Pick a role, then press Add member. You can add anyone who is already in your workspace. When everyone is in, the card says so.

Only people who can manage the campaign see these controls. Everyone else sees the list as plain text.

Set up campaign roles

Campaign roles are made once for the whole workspace, in Settings › Campaign roles, and used in every campaign.

The Campaign roles settings page with the built-in Owner and four roles of the workspace

Each role is a set of things a person can do in a campaign:

  • See the campaign — everyone in a campaign can see it.
  • Comment — leave comments on the campaign and its content.
  • Make content — make posts, files and chats for the campaign.
  • Sign off — approve content before it is published.
  • Manage — edit the details, the members and the credit limit.

Owner is built in and can do all five. A workspace starts with four more roles: Sign off, Create, Review and View only, each allowed a little less than the one before. You can change or delete them like any role you make. Press New role to make your own, give it a name and tick what it may do. Use the pencil to change a role and the trash button to delete one that nobody holds.

Campaign memory

The Campaign memory card is what every chat and automation in this campaign follows, on top of the brand's own Brand Kit. It uses the Brand Kit's own fields: Target Audience, Brand Voice, Must Include, Must Avoid, Brand Hashtags and Focused CTAs, plus What Works and What Fails.

The Campaign memory card with its fields filled in

When you start a campaign with a brief, Bupple fills the memory from the brand and the brief in the background. After that, a person who manages the campaign can change any field by hand and press Save memory.

What Works, What Fails, the memory buttons and the list of versions

  1. Fill from brand reads the brand and the brief again and fills the fields. It runs the Brand Agent, so it uses credits, and it can take a minute. Save or undo your own changes first.
  2. Save memory keeps your changes. Undo changes throws them away.
  3. Every save becomes a new numbered version. Versions lists each one with how it was made (Edited by hand, Filled from the brand, Restored or From your post results), who made it and when. Restore brings back an older version as a new one.

What Works and What Fails are written by Bupple every week from the campaign's post results, so nobody edits them by hand. The note under each says Written every week from this campaign's post results.

What can be in a campaign

Work is put in a campaign where you make it. A chat, an automation, a post or a file can be in one campaign at a time. Look for the campaign menu in these places:

  • Superagent — under the message box. See Superagent.
  • Posts — in the post composer and in a post's details.
  • Automations — on the automation.
  • Imagine and the Video Editor — when you ask for a new picture, clip or video. What they make is saved to your Media Library as a file of the campaign.
  • Media Library — in a file's details, under Campaign.

The campaign's page then lists everything in it, in four cards: Chats, Automations, Posts and Files. Each item is a link that opens it. The Superagent's chat list, Posts, Automations, Imagine and the Media Library also have a campaign filter, so you can see one campaign's work there too.

Results

The Results card at the bottom shows how the campaign is doing, from its start date to its end date or today.

The campaign's Chats, Automations, Posts and Files cards above its Results

  1. Each item in the lists above opens the item itself.
  2. The card shows Posts published, Impressions, Engagements and Tracked link clicks for the campaign's posts. When the networks reported clicks too, Clicks the networks reported is added. A number nobody reported says Not reported.
  3. With a goal, the card shows how far you are, like 2,546 of 4,000 tracked link clicks · 63%, with a bar. The share can pass 100%.

Some goals read a little differently:

  • A Clicks goal counts the clicks on the campaign's tracked links.
  • A Followers goal counts the followers the whole brand gained, across all its accounts, not only from this campaign's posts. The card says so.
  • A Conversions goal cannot be measured yet, and the card says so instead of showing a number.

A campaign that has not started yet shows its start date and no numbers. When a campaign reaches 50%, 80% and 100% of its goal, everyone on the brand is told in Updates.

When Bupple publishes a post that is in a campaign, each web link in the caption goes out as a short tracked link, one for each network. Your saved caption does not change. A click on that link opens your page and is counted in Tracked link clicks. If your link has no tracking tags of its own, Bupple adds tags that name the network and the campaign, so your website's own analytics can see where the visit came from. If your link already has tracking tags, it is kept exactly as you wrote it.

Good to know

To compare a campaign with the rest of the brand, open Analytics and pick the campaign in the All campaigns filter.
  • Analytics — read the numbers behind your campaign's results.
  • Automations — let a campaign's regular posts run on their own.
