Design Editor

How to ask the Design Editor for finished on-brand pictures at exact sizes, read the price, open a project, ask for changes and find the files.

Video coming soon

The tutorial for this chapter is being recorded. The guide below covers everything in the meantime.

The Design Editor makes finished, laid-out pictures for your brand: a social post, a story, an ad, a banner, a flyer, a thumbnail or a cover. You say what you want and the sizes, pick any files it should use, and an AI designer lays it out with your brand. You get back one picture per size, saved in your Media Library. You can ask for changes, and each change becomes a new version beside the last. Open it from Design Editor in the sidebar, or press D. Every design belongs to the brand you have selected at the top of the sidebar.

The page has two parts: the New design form at the top, and Your designs below it. You can also ask for a design in the Superagent chat. Those designs show up here too.

What it is for

The Design Editor is for pictures with a layout: words, your logo, your colors and your photos placed together at an exact pixel size. It is not for video (that is the Video Editor). For a plain AI picture with nothing laid out on it, use Imagine.

The designer recognizes some kinds of pieces from the words in your request, and follows the rules of that kind:

  • a YouTube thumbnail
  • a carousel (for example a five-slide carousel)
  • one ad in every size
  • a studio product shot
  • a quote card or a testimonial
  • an infographic or a stat card
  • a poster, a flyer or an event
  • a launch announcement

It uses at most two of these per request. A request that names none of them still gets a full design.

Ask for a new design

Fill in the New design form. Only the request is required.

The New design form with a request, three sizes and every control numbered

  1. What should it be? Describe the picture: what it announces, the headline or words to use, the tone and the facts. For example: An Instagram post announcing our spring sale: a bold headline, one line under it, and our logo. The designer uses only the words, facts and files you give it and your Brand Kit, so put any text you want in the request.
  2. The line under the box names the brand the design is for, such as For Halden Cloud. Switch brands in the sidebar. To make it for another brand, switch brands first.
  3. Sizes. Click one or more presets: Square 1080×1080 (picked to begin with), Portrait 1080×1350, Story 1080×1920 and Landscape 1920×1080. Click a picked size again to drop it. You get one picture per size, all from the same design.
  4. A size of your own. Type a Width and a Height in pixels and press Add size. It appears as a chip, like 1200 × 628. Click its X to remove it.
  5. Model — the AI model that makes the design, and next to it how hard it thinks. These are the same pickers as in the Superagent chat, and the model opens on your last pick.
  6. Files to use — Choose files opens your Media Library. Pick photos, your logo, a product picture, or any other file the design should use. The button then says how many you chose.
  7. The price note. See What a design costs.
  8. Make the design starts it. With more than one size, the button says so, for example Make it at 3 sizes. It stays off until you write a request.

Under the button the form says A design takes a few minutes. Every picture is saved to your Media Library under Apps › Design Editor.

Size rules

The form checks your sizes before you start, and says what is wrong in plain words:

  • You can ask for up to 8 sizes at once.
  • Each side is 200 to 4,096 pixels. Type 5000 × 1000 and the form says Each side of a design is 200 to 4096 pixels; 5000x1000 is not.
  • Each size can be asked for once.

The Sizes part of the form with a size that is too wide

While a typed size breaks a rule, Add size stays off and the sentence under it says why. The start button also stays off while any picked size breaks a rule.

Pick the files it should use

Choose files opens a window titled Choose files for this design. It is your Media Library, with its folders, search and filters. Tick the files you want, then press Attach. You can also upload a new file from here.

The Choose files window over the Design Editor

When you attach a photo of your product, that photo is the product. It appears large and recognizable in every size, and the designer never swaps it for a made-up look-alike.

What a design costs

The note above the start button explains how you are billed, for the model you picked:

  • Nothing is held when you press Start.
  • You are charged as the AI works, at the model's rate (the note shows it, in credits per million tokens).
  • When it is over, you are charged for the machine time it used.
  • Any picture it generates with an image model is charged by that tool.
  • You need at least 4,000 credits to start. This is a minimum balance, not a price.

Once this brand has at least three finished designs on the same model, the note also says what your recent designs on it cost: a typical figure and a range.

Your designs

Below the form, Your designs lists this brand's projects. A project is the first design plus every change you asked of it. With none yet, the list says No designs yet for this brand. Ask for one above.

Each project card shows a small copy of its newest finished picture, the project's name, a badge (Working, Done, Didn't finish or Stopped), your first request, how many versions it has, its sizes and when it was made. While it is working, the card also shows the step it is on. Click a card to open the project.

Inside a project

When you start a design, the page opens its project right away. At the top are All designs (back to the list), the project's name, how many versions it has, and Open in Media Library, which opens the project's folder.

Below that, every version sits side by side, oldest first, labeled v1, v2 and so on. Each one shows what was asked for. A change starts with Change:.

While it is being made

Each size shows as an empty box already in its real shape, so a story is tall and a landscape is wide. The first box shows the step it is on, the step count with a bar, how long it has run and, when there is enough history to judge, about how long is left.

If it seems stuck, press Stop. The card says Stuck? Stop it — the work so far is kept. A design that did not finish says why in red under its boxes. To try again, ask for it again from the form.

Before the pictures are handed to you, the designer checks each one the way an art director checks proofs. It looks for text that is cut off or too small, a covered or stretched photo, a wrong or stretched logo, off-brand colors and typos. It fixes what it finds.

You do not need to stay on the page. When the design is done you get a notice in Updates: Your design is ready (or Your design failed). Clicking it opens the project.

The finished pictures

A finished version shows every picture at its real shape, with its size under it (for example Story 1080 × 1920). Each picture has:

  • Open — opens the file, where you can see it full size, comment, share and see its details. Clicking the picture does the same.
  • Download — saves the picture to your computer.

Ask for a change

Under the versions is a box: Ask for a change — "make the headline shorter". Type what to change and press Make the change. The change is made to the newest finished version, at every size together. It appears as the next version beside the others, and the earlier versions stay as they were. While a version is still being made, the box waits and says A version is still being made. Ask for the next change when it is done.

Where the pictures are saved

Every picture is saved in your Media Library under Apps › Design Editor, in a folder named after the project. The project name comes from the first few words of your request. Each file is named after the project and its size, with the version number after the first one, for example Spring Sale 1080x1920.png, then Spring Sale v2 1080x1920.png. A picture the designer generated with an image model goes in an Imagine folder inside the project. The files you picked to use are never moved.

Designs from the Superagent chat

You can ask the Superagent for a design in plain words, such as Make an Instagram post and a story announcing our new region. It picks the right sizes for the platforms you name and starts one design with all of them. For example, an Instagram feed post is 1080×1350, a story or Reels cover 1080×1920, a LinkedIn post 1200×1200, an X post 1600×900 and a YouTube thumbnail 1280×720. If you give a size in pixels, it uses that size.

The design runs in the background while you keep talking. When it is done, the pictures are posted into the chat with a message such as Your design is ready — 2 pictures. Ask me for any change and I'll make a new version of it. Ask for a change in the same chat, and the Superagent makes a new version at every size. Designs made from the chat are filed in your Media Library inside the Apps › Chats folder, and they also appear on the Design Editor page.

  • Video Editor — the same way of working, for finished videos.
  • Brand Kit — the colors, logo and voice every design follows.
